How To Use Young Living Essential Oils

I remember how scary it was when I first started using Essential Oils. It was a bit overwhelming. So first things first, always always always read the product label! Before you do anything always read that product label!

Young Living Essential Oils can be used in three ways.

Aromatic Use

This is the most known way and it simply means to breathe in the oils. In your kit, you'll get your choice of diffuser! Aromatic Use is probably the easiest way to use essential oils.

You can always place a drop or two in your hard and cup them over your nose and mouth and breathe deeply.

My personal favorite is use of a diffuser necklace and cotton balls in the vents of my car!

Topical Use:

Topical means to apply directly to the skin. It is always, always recommended to dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil (read more below)! Simply adding a drop to a bit of carrier oil is all it takes, and it will prolong your oils too. Many essential oils are "hot" oils, so you'll always use a carrier oil with them as well.

Internal Use

Internal use means to swallow your oils, either in food or drink or by filling a vegetable capsule. This is a very personal decision, because some people are very comfortable with ingesting and other's aren't. I know people who choose both methods, and you won't be judged for one way or the others. However, not all oils can be ingested and you should refer to the label of each oil for proper usage instructions. (The "Vitality" oils are part of Young Living's dietary oils line and are GRAS(Generally Regarded As Safe by FDA_ and can be ingested if you choose to do so.

Carrier Oils

A carrier oil is a vegetable oil derived from the fatty portion of a plant, usually from the seeds, kernels or the nuts. They are used to dilute essential and other oils prior to topical application. Each carrier oil offers a different combination of therapeutic properties and characteristics. The choice of carrier oil is personal preference and can depend on the therapeutic benefit being sought.

Some of my person favorite carrier oils are as followed.

  • V6 Vegetable Oil Complex (a specifically formulated carrier oil blend from Young Living)
  • Coconut Oil
  • Grapeseed Oil
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Rose Hip Oil
